Islands may be down and out in Beverly Hills and Encino, but the chain is hardly experiencing death spasms. The 53rd Islands location will open on December 20th in Redondo Beach, bringing baskets of crunchy, salty, all-you-can-eat fries, arctic-temperature beer, and big ol' "meh" burgers to a 4,970 square-foot, 250-seat space at The South Bay Galleria. The 30-year-old chain, which first broke ground in West L.A., plans a few new items here, including a blue cheese and bacon burger called the Point Break (The Gary Busey Burger fell flat with test audiences). The chain also has three new brews of its own, both a golden and brown ale, as well as an Islands IPA.
Islands, open December 20th at 609 Hawthorne Blvd. Redondo Beach.
