The Hon. Robert Nesta Marley O.M. once said, “Herb is the healing of a nation, alcohol is the destruction,” an aphorism consistent with his “ital-is-vital” stance. Nonetheless, bartender Alan “Super” Katz is celebrating the reggae legend’s birthday, with a rum-soaked party this evening at Downtown’s Caña Rum Bar. Even if Marley may have demurred, Katz still pours some of the very best drinks in L.A., and tonight he’ll be offering Kingston’s Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum mixed with natural grapefruit soda and fresh citrus for just six bucks fi get mash-up and red as a rasclaat, as well as a Captain’s Blood punch for $26 made from various Jamaican rums. Meanwhile, some dude named DJ Kill-Devil will help chant down joints with his later hits from Island Records, featuring remixes and rare cuts. Come join the bashment at 6:00 P.M. tonight at 714 W. Olympic. Downtown.
