A little bit behind schedule but better late than never, Nopalito’s second location is now set to open on April 23 at 1224 9th Avenue at Lincoln (the former Bistro 9). As reported earlier, the new location is going to have much the same menu as the first one, with slightly dressed up Mexican fare and hopefully equally excellent carnitas. The new place has a much larger kitchen that’s going to allow them to expand their whole-animal program to service both restaurants.

As you likely know, the wildly popular Nopalito began as an offshoot of Nopa back in 2009 when chef-owner Laurence Jossel decided, with two of his line cooks, to open a Mexican restaurant based on the staff meals that these guys were cooking. Thus co-chefs Gonzalo Guzman and Jose Ramos were handed their own business, which is now officially a mini-empire of two.

Expect similarly long waits as they won’t be taking reservations at this location either, but here’s a pro tip: You can call ahead to get your name on the list for a table and find out how long the wait is, if you ask nicely.
