Grub Street recently caught wind of a Roy Choi pop-up restaurant that was personally picked by Beastie Boy Mike D to serve his upcoming mixed media exhibit "Transmission LA: A/V Club," starting its engines at MOCA on April 20. We now have official word from Choi that it's on, as the chef releases a statement detailing the Kogi crew's new project, a temporary restaurant serving dinner from 6:00 to 10:00 P.M. every Thursday through Saturday, from April 21 through May 5th, and lunch on Thursdays and Saturdays, from 11:00 to 2:00 P.M. starting April 20.
Choi announces that this "outdoor pop-up" will include a different menu on "each day of the festival" and promises "every menu item" will be something that hasn't been "tasted before." Read the chef's full statement about his soon-too-come "exploration of flavor and straight gangster love" at MOCA after the jump.
In a formal announcement, chef Roy Choi writes:
MIKE D asked me to participate in Transmission LA: AV CLUB. I don't know where you come from but in my world if Mike D steps to me, I listen.
I want to extend what we do on the streets one step further into an exploration of flavor and straight gangster love.
There will be a mess hall where we will ask you to find a seat or not. I want us to have a love in, a sit in, a freaking crazy outdoor celebration to find a new way of connecting to each other.
Oh yeah, I'll be cooking something new every Thursday, Friday and Saturday on top of the crew banging out the OG Kogi menu, so the food will change throughout the exhibit.
Just come and kick it with me.
ROY 'PAPI' CHOI
