Sushi Groove (1916 Hyde Street) is supposed to reopen this week after being closed for two weeks due to a bad health inspection. An anonymous tipster alerted us to the closure, which the restaurant has tried to pass off as “maintenance and repair” according to a voicemail greeting. There were multiple violations cited by the health department, adding up to a score of 75 out of 100, including rodents/roaches and unclean food prep surfaces. The closure appears to have been enforced because of previous low scores, and a follow-up inspection on March 29 revealed a failure to fully rectify the issues.

The restaurant said they would be closed until April 15, presumably reopening yesterday, however the voicemail greeting has not been changed, and we have not been able to confirm that theyhave reopened.

Another note, judging from the size of the restaurant, the neighborhood, and the fact that they’re touting fifteen years in business, this could in fact be the “romantic” restaurant that’s currently for sale in this blind item. Better bring a mop, prospective buyers!

Sushi Groove South (1516 Folsom at 11th) remains open as usual.
