This week we learned that Mirabelle on Sunset was shuttering its doors after 41 years of offering upscale Mediterranean dining in West Hollywood. Now the Germanides family, which operates the restaurant, tells Grub Street of its plan for the space, which apparently will still retain the Mirabelle name, making this less of a closing and more of a temporary shutter and relaunch of what they're considering "an entirely new restaurant." Designer Thomas Schoos (Koi, The Huntley, Wilshire, Searsucker, among others) has been brought in to completely re-envision the restaurant as an ode to old Hollywood glamor, with a reopening planned before or on May 10. What else?

In addition, the family spills their secret that a new exec chef is coming in with a new menu concept and a bar program that they claim will be unrivaled in West Hollywood. The owners thought long and hard about changing the name, too, but ultimately decided to hold on to this part of their legacy, especially seeing as Schoos supported keeping it. They are documenting the changes to come through their website. We got our hands on the first video, which shows both George and Lenore Germanides reminiscing about how the restaurant got its start. You can check it out, below.
