Larry Nicola has given a whole new look to Nic's, the chef's beloved Beverly Hills martini bar and go-to vodka igloo. Called "Poolside," the new style evokes L.A.'s chlorine culture with beach stripes and photographs of pricey L.A. pools and sun-worshiping stars like Dolores del Rio and Rock Hudson in classic and contemporary images taken by the likes of Tim Street Porter and Anthony Friedkin.
On June 16, Nicola will flex Nic's swimming new style at an event benefiting L.A. Regional Food Bank, open to the public at a $150-per-ticket price. According to the restaurant, Nic's will abound that evening with canaba boys and girls (struggling event models, we presume), chaise lounges, towels, a swimsuit fashion show, music by KCRW DJ Mario Cotto, and a 60-foot, aquatic video installation. Oh, and expect a lot of vodka, as the restaurant is still all about this Slavic life blood, while a newly introduced menu includes dishes like lobster beignets, dill pickle-marinated fried chicken, and a dish of Persian watercress with peaches.
