Jessica Gelt enables us to see inside of Sassafrass, the new Southern-style bar coming to Hollywood from 1933 Group. Co-owner and “theme bar king” Bobby Green has taken an entire house from Savannah, Georgia and reanimated it inside of the 3,500-square-foot drinking venue on Vine, recreating the sense that you entered a real home when you walk inside. The bar will offer free hard-boiled eggs around the clock to go with its barrel-aged drinks. 1933 will then convert a “barrel-shaped” North Hollywood space that was first opened in the forties for a restaurant venture called Idle Hour, the group’s first foray into dining. Green also addresses his one major miss, Stinkers, a self-jabbing shot at hipsters that featured farting skunks on the wall and closed to become Thirsty Crow. He tells the L.A. Times, “I did something totally ridiculous because I wanted to, but people just hated it…I had to learn to edit myself.”
