Last Thursday, Eater caught developing news that Celestino Drago would be opening a new signature restaurant called Osteria Drago in West Hollywood’s former Il Sole space at Sunset Plaza; A tempting prospect for diners devoted to Drago, which closed in Santa Monica in January. Today, reps for the restaurant confirm that Osteria Drago will open in early July with a “casually sophisticated ambiance” (which we interpret as, short sleeves may be tolerated, but please don’t wear shorts). The selection here will be rustic Italian small plates and entrees, with craft beer and wine in a space outfitted with Italian furnishings and fixings. What else?

The most promising news for anyone missing Drago who’s willing to cross the 405, Osteria Drago will find the Santa Monica restaurant’s talented executive chef, Patina and Bastide vet Evan Gotanda, in the kitchen here as chef de cuisine. Hopefully, that Italian goat menu of our dreams lies somewhere in our future. A website currently cites July 1 as the project’s opening date.
