Umamicatessen and Mercado Start Happy Hour

Two new happy hours are now being implemented on opposite sides of town. Downtown's Umamicatessen starts one for the weekday today from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. and includes a new menu with half-price discounts on the hams at Pigg (Johnston mangalitas for $12, La Quercia Berkshire for $8.50), plus all drafts and cocktails from Back Bar for five bucks, and new dishes, like the (NOB)LT at Cure that substitutes crispy chicken skin for bacon and a short rib slider and bacon-wrapped "Downtown dog" from Umami Burger.

Last Friday, Santa Monica's newest Mexican restaurant, Mercado (from the Yxta Cocina crew), started its own week-long happy hourat its bar and communal tables, stretching Mondays through Fridays from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. and Saturdays and Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. A few dollars goes pretty far here as well, with a five-spot buying you the restaurant's signature margarita, six netting you carnitas tacos, and choriqueso with house-made chorizo is also priced at six dollars.
