This Sunday, July 8, The History Channel is setting up shop at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Flea Market for the L.A. edition of a national “Cross-Country Cookout” tour, less than two weeks before the L.A. Street Food Fest reprises its annual celebration of sidewalk eating here. Part of a larger U.S. promotion, the network is appearing from 8:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. alongside the world’s largest smoker on wheels, an 80-foot-long monster that can slow-cook over one ton of meat at once. The truck’s commander, one Trace Arnold (scandalously nicknamed “The Meat Whisperer”) will provide free samples of barbecue, including hickory and jalapeno-cheddar sausages prepared in the smoker, to guests, while American Pickers star Danielle Colby will be on hand to offer tours of the flea market.
