San Francisco pastry chef Boris Portnoy, who made a splash with his worldly influences at that city's Winterland, Campton Place, Sucrepunch, and Meadowood after a debut at New York's Cru, launched his own operation last month called Satellite Republic, bringing Georgian and Chechen street food to NorCal through a moped-strapped tandoor. This Friday, Portnoy is bringing his interest in the former Soviet republics of Central Asia and the Caucasus region to Downtown's Jancar Jones Gallery, preparing a "feast" of Georgian cuisine and exploring its influences from Turkey and Iran. What will make his menu?

Dishes in the $25 four-course dinner include starters of tandoor-baked tonis puri bread and elderberry tonic, roasted eggplant satzivi with walnut dressing, lamb-stuffed kinkhali dumplings, grilled sturgeon with pickled green beans and plum sauce, and dessert of walnut baklava. Dinner starts at 7:00 P.M. this Friday, with tickets available online $25.
