The Bungalow, a new party space at The Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica, opens to the public tonight following a to-do yesterday evening with Jason Bentley on the wheels of steel and an acoustic performance by the Hurdy Gurdy man himself, Donovan Leitch (though Frankenreiter may have been more apropos). The venue is a new hangout for Hollywood nightlife types looking to get in on the Westside's ocean breezes and will be open to the public Tuesdays through Saturday from 5:00 P.M. until closing, and will also play host to private events. Sunday will see a daytime fete that goes from 2:00 to 10:00 P.M.
The impressive, open layout resembles a cottage picked up by some loaded surfer flown south for the summer, complete with a game room and over-sized couches, and according to a comment in our introductory post, it even has its own narc-y neighbor trying to bust the place.
We're not typically into Bolthousian brouhahas ourselves, but we'd eat sand just to snack on Ray Garcia's food and here the chef is providing exclusive small plates from Fig to supplement the bar's selection of sangrias and margaritas made with farmers market-supplied shrubs and handmade syrups. Garcia's full menu is yet to roll-out, but dishes will include Mexican-style shrimp cocktails with avocado, cilantro and red onion and Mexican flatbread with queso fresco and black beans and tacos.Additionally, a large selection of tequila and mezcal aims to keep the "Baja" vibe abuzzing while a garden patio looks like the ideal place to post up.
We typically expect to be stopped at the door by any past or present SBE associate (Bolthouse hasn't worked with the company in three years), but a rep for The Bungalow assures us it's completely "open to the public" and just a "very casual place to hang with friends." If you happen to go by, please let us know if that's really the case or whether it's back to the rooftop at Hotel Shangri-LA for the lot of us. The Bungalow opens tonight at 5:00 P.M.
