A new look, new name, and new owners have transformed Echo Park's Downbeat Cafe into Echo Lake Coffee Co., with the intention to breathe new life into one of the neighborhood's pioneering coffee cafes. Cesar Diaz, who purchased the dusty property with his brother, Sergio about six months back, tells Eastsider L.A. that the new 'do is meant to accommodate repeat customers and those coming in for meetings to work on the next great American novel.
Diaz says, Everybody knew the name but many had not been around in years," leading to the title change amid renewed efforts to make the place a daily destination. The cafe's Jazz nights, held on Wednesdays, will remain the same, as will the staff, but a new menu is said to be coming soon. [ESLA]
