On August 26, a truly outstanding lineup of nine chefs, many of them recognized as among the best L.A. has to offer by such institutions as Food & Wine and the James Beard Foundation, will come together for the city’s first “Fried Chicken Fest.” Baco Mercat’s Josef Centeno, M.B. Post’s David LeFevre, Mozza’s Matt Molina, Mary Sue Milliken of Border Grill, Bryant Ng of Spice Table, Jitalda’s Jazz Singsanong, and Mo-Chica and Picca chef Ricardo Zarate will unite with Marcel Vigneron and Haru Kishi at that duo’s The Coop, now operating out of the former LaCienega home of Gonpachi (not to be confused with the Palms-Cheviot Hills pizza spot of the same name).

Organized by Food GPS’ indomitable founder, Joshua Lurie, and governing Gastronaut Helen Springut, the four hour event will find each chef making their own take on the classic U.S. clucker using Mary’s free range chicken from Pitman Farms, along with a side dish. Meanwhile, Josh Goldman of forthcoming Mess Hall will make cocktails with Knob Creek, Pour Vous’ David Fernie will DJ, and Firestone will provide the beer. $45 buys a chicken dish with a side from all of the chefs from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. that Sunday, but the price goes up to $55 after August 19. Ten percent of proceeds go to Share Our Strength and tickets can be purchased online.
