The assets foreshadowing success at Downtown’s new FigOly were visionary bartender Matt Biancaniello, multi-faceted Top Chef dude Alex Reznik and his passion for an old pasta-making machine, and of course, a location across from Staples Center and tourist lure, L.A. Live. It turned out Biancaniello was just a consultant on the cocktail menus and remains a fixture at Library Bar, and now Eater reports that Reznik bailed himself yesterday. As to its location, well, the place is still there with its giant patio, but isn’t exactly slurping up its fill of customers. Perhaps making up its mind as to whether it’s really a hotel Italian restaurant for suits or a playground to rival ESPN Sports Zone would make for the logical next step. And while we’re at it, a snappier name wouldn’t hurt. Currently, Reznik’s own next move still remains in question.
