Eater jumps on a tragic scoop today that was originally laid out by Gayot. As hard as it is to swallow, Mark Peel’s venerated La Brea restaurant Campanile could soon be sold to another owner. According to Gayot’s original story, the space may soon be taken over by Bill Chait to provide a home for Walter Manzke’s Republique, which was originally due for Downtown before changing course. The L.A. Times confirms the chatter is real this afternoon, positing that a takeover could happen in early December, while Campanile is still currently in operation and a deal is yet to be finalized.
