As previously promised, Playa is bringing Tijuana’s most talked-about chef, Javier Plascencia, to its kitchen to take part in the restaurant’s Baja Chef Series. Only a little sooner than we first thought. Plascencia, the chef and owner of a small South of the Border empire including Mision 19, will join the Beverly Boulevard restaurant this coming week, joining Pablo Campos, Guillermo Campos, and Orlando Miguel del Monte’s Tacos Kokopelli, which starts its own own four-night pop-up this Sunday with a la carte dishes like sopes with a Yucatan pineapple sauce and halibut lemongrass ceviche.

Joining the chefs on Tuesday and Wednesday, Plascencia plans a short menu that includes yellow fin tuna with beef marrow and onion foam and a soup of Haas avocados with smoked pork and black radish. Both restaurants were big hits at this year’s Street Food Fest. Reservations are available at 323-933-5300.
