Tears in Your Beers: The Purple Shamrock Dies Today

RIP.
RIP.

The moment has finally arrived: Boston’s beloved/reviled/sticky-floored bastion of excess, the Purple Shamrock, closes down on Saturday. Today they’ll host a drunken melee Irish wake to say goodbye. You might want to fake sick and leave work now—the festivities begin at 12:30.

The parade, which includes a casket and bagpipers, commences at 160 State St., home of another favorite debauchery den, the Black Rose. The parade ends, of course, at the Purple Shamrock, with food, stout, music, and a guestbook (don’t forget to leave your drunken condolences!).

It’s not all bad news for Faneuil Hall, though: The state’s first Ice Bar moves in this spring!
