Well, San Francisco, you’ve birthed another culinary superstar, and his name is Danny Bowien. It’s been a whirlwind year for him, and if all the national press for S.F.’s Mission Chinese Food last year wasn’t enough, the opening of his New York restaurant has, in six months, made him the stuff of legend. Now GQ gets in on the game (for the second time really if you count Alan Richman’s original rave), with a 4,000-word profile that begins describing Bowien’s signature look. “His long hair, dyed the color of orange sherbet, and clear-framed glasses are on their way to becoming as iconic on the New York dining scene as Mario Batali’s clogs or Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Prada pants.” Hear that? Also, the piece describes a night in the life of the restaurant in which a packed house of hipsters, tourists, etc., also included chef Magnus Nilsson, and David Chang dining with the president of the World Bank. What? [GQ, Earlier]
