Tank 18, the new urban winery debuting in SoMa, has finally gotten all its sign-offs and will make its official debut with a party next weekend, January 26. After that, in addition to being rentable as an event venue, the tasting room will be open Thursday to Sunday, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., offering wines by the glass or bottle, and $15 tasting flights of their house vintages, complete with a cheese sampler. Founders Patrick MacCartee and Cheryln Chin proudly describe the newly renovated, 6,000-square-foot space as a reflection of themselves — “big, loud, and full of alcohol.” We showed you some sneak-peek photos before the holidays, but soon you’ll be able to step inside for yourself.

Chin and MacCartee took a green approach to the renovation, using old boards pulled up from the floor to build the bar surface, and using repurposed wood pallets and crates for seating and tables.

The opening party on January 26 goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and it’s a BYO-Bottle event, in keeping with the green theme — bring a used, washed out wine bottle of your own and they’ll fill it, straight from the barrel, for $7.99. Choose from the four varietal wines and one blend they’re launching with: a Russian River Chardonnay, a California Pinot Noir, a Napa Valley Meritage blend, a Cabernet Sauvignon, and an El Dorado Tempranillo. Also, on the regular menu they have a sangria they’ll be offering that MacCartee has dubbed Mangria.

Regular glass prices will be $7 to $10, with bottles available for in-house enjoyment for $25 to $35 — bottles to go will be $13 to $24. Also, there will be a rotating menu of bites to accompany your wine, curated from different pop-ups and food trucks each week.
