Legendary New York cabaret/restaurant Don’t Tell Mama opens its doors tomorrow in West Hollywood, bringing a talented group of singers, dancers, performers, and musicians to Santa Monica and Sweetzer for dinner and a show served nightly (the name comes from the song of the same name in Cabaret). Decked out in shiny wood and leather, the business is broken into two separate spaces: a dining room with room for 50, a full bar with original cocktails, beer, and wine, plus a menu of U.S. cuisine (think seared scallops with citrus beurre blanc and lamb chops with ratatouille and cous cous), as well as a piano bar space with banquettes and bar-side cabaret seating for nightly shows from 7:00 P.M. to 2:00 A.M.

Opening tomorrow night at 4:00 P.M. for happy hour and for dinner at 7:00 P.M., with brunch to follow this Saturday and Sunday, the opening will find a few of Don’t Tell Mama’s New York performers in our city tomorrow, with actors from Broadway shows like Evita and Footloose performing in the initial days while musical director Ryan O’Conner continues his search for an L.A.-based cast (or maybe the Gothamites will stay for the weather?).

In addition to cabaret shows, the restaurant’s reps say the space will host performers and guests from shows like Smash, Glee, and American Idol, as well as touring companies in residence at local theaters like The Pantages, the Ahmanson, and REDCAT.

he good news for this part of town, besides the instant increase in more show tunes, is that the venue is always cover-less and you need not have dinner if you want to check out the show.
