LAUSD Embraces "Meatless Mondays" At Its School Cafeterias

Back in November, Los Angeles became the third U.S. city to embrace "Meatless Mondays." It sounded a little like posturing at the time, as it was just the city's way of recommending a meat-free start to the week, but now it's actually being put into practice by our local public school system. Usually not the first bureaucracy to embrace such big changes, LAUSD recently instituted "Meatless Mondays" at every one of its cafeterias, giving the students the kind of opportunity that would probably be more appreciated by Morrissey fans than your average burger-hooked teenager. In any case, as much as it sounds like a new victory in the fight for the planet, it also sounds like a decent idea in cost-cutting measure that hopefully makes up for some of that $158 million that was recently skimmed off the school lunch program.
