Downtown’s Spice Table no longer serves its wonderful banh mi and Chinatown’s Mỹ Dung could offer a little more in the atmosphere (and meat) department. That’s why we were thrilled to stumble upon Mr. Baguette, a time-tested, quick-fix favorite of the SGV’s, in the food court of The Bonaventure Galleria this weekend. Mr. Baguette, which bakes its own bread and makes its own charcuterie, is currently serving a solid competitor in the field of Downtown’s best banh mi, offering four styles (priced, astronomically in Rosemead terms, from $4.99 to $7.99) with fillings like Saigon bacon, meatloaf and egg, and garlic sausage. The restaurant, which is only open from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on weekdays, also offers a daily pho special for $7.95, along with boba Thai tea and coffee.
