Schlotzsky’s Spreading Across So. Cal; Venice Ale House Heading to Austin

Looks like L.A. is starting a restaurant exchange program with Austin. Schlotzsky’s, the Austin-based chain that bakes its own bread for sandwiches and pizza, is aggressively eyeing Southern California, with plans to roll out 200 new stores in the next decade across our region. Schlotzsky’s soldiers are currently scouring the Southland in full force, looking to open stores co-branded with Cinnabon and Carvel. So what does Austin get for saturating us with Schlotzsky’s? It turns out, Venice Ale House is bringing a version of its sand-side pub to the Texas capital, with owners Thomas Elliott and Spoon Singh sending chef Emilio Oliva back to his hometown to oversee the menu and beer selection.
