Austin’s La Condesa may have pushed back plans to open an L.A. location, but we still seem to be under some sort of Texan invasion. Following a recent report that Austin’s Schlotzky’s is expanding through the Southland and this week’s news that Houston’s Del Frisco’s Grille is making headway in Santa Monica for a summer opening, L.A. Biz reports that Alamo Drafthouse, an Austin-based movie theater chain serving food and drinks in the style of The Arclight, is considering a space next to Downtown’s Medallion complex. The L.A. expansion follows news that the brand is set to open in Denver and New York, with the prospective project in Los Angeles to utilize 25,000-square feet of space to fit in 600 seats and eight screens. Though no finalizing deal is yet in place, filmmaker appearances and special screenings could make the Alamo the only serious competitor to the more commercial cinema complex at L.A. Live!
