Gatten Sushi, the Irvine-based kaiten (conveyor belt sushi) chain, recently added its eighth store to Southern California’s playing field by opening a Koreatown location right across from The Wiltern. The restaurant, the most centrally-located in the chain, offers discount nigiri, with prices between $1.50 for vegetable-topped rice and $5.50 for uni and scallop sushi. Rolls, which include one with fried chicken and another called a “taco roll,” are available from $1.50 to $3.50. Online reviews typically slam the quality of the fish here, though Gatten not only survives other such similar concepts like the short-lived U-Sushi, but continues to announce plans for further growth. The KTown store is open seven days a week from 11:30 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.
