Tom Elliott and Spoon Singh, the two dudes behind Venice Ale House, are opening a new restaurant and bar called “Bank of Venice” this Friday, following friends and family dinners later this week. In an enviable location on Windward and Pacific that didn’t exactly work for the last tenants (Code, née Dry Tour), the partners plan to offer organic, locavore cuisine prepared by Jason Feehrer, the sustainable chef previously behind Hawaii’s Palm Cafe and B.C.’s Sooke Harbor House. Despite his resource respect approach, Feehrer’s food does not resemble the light, meat-free fare you’ll find across the street at Seed. Instead, you can tuck into grass-fed meatloaf, Neiman Ranch-sourced bangers and mash, and gluten-free mac and cheese with 60-day aged cheddar.

Bank of Venice, housed in what used to be an actual bank over a hundred years ago, will also have dedicated sections devoted to seafood and the neighborhood’s Mexican influences, including Alehouse dishes like Tom’s Daily ceviche, Carslbad-sourced mussels Sauvignon, and seared sea scallops, along with shrimp and bacon quesadillas, and tacos de carnitas.

Bank of Venice plans to nail the late-night crowd, open until midnight on weekdays and 2:00 A.M. on weekends, giving this boardwalk-adjacent strip another contender for afternoon drinking, evening dining, and late night revelry. There’s also a TV for games, but the bartender gets control of the remote, when he’s not tapping 30 Cali ales, 24 state-sourced wines, and a wide variety of soju cocktails.

Bank of Venice, 80 Winward Ave. Venice.
