Con Edison Has Shut Down Carnegie Deli

New York institution Carnegie Deli won’t be serving pastrami today: Con Edison discovered an “illegal gas connection” in the basement and temporarily shut down the restaurant. Apparently, the owners installed a devise that tinkered with the meter, which then lowered their gas bills. In the wake of the East Village explosion — which flatlined Pommes Frites — this is an extremely sensitive issue. [NYDN]
