Antojitos Carmen, Boyle Heights’ beloved D.F.-style street food specialist that strode on to Cesar Chavez Avenue in 2010 following a forced exile from the Breed Street market, is now closed. On Saturday, a new business called La Barbacha opened in its place, with new owners, but roughly the same menu as its predecessor. No word from Carmen’s previous owners just yet, but the new restaurant’s name is derived from the house specialty, barbacoa that an employee promises us is cooked through the traditional pit-smoked method.

The lamb dish will be offered here daily, changing your course from another early Saturday morning scouring South Central backyards or scheduling your Sundays around a trip to Gish Bac.

La Barbacha, 2510 Cesar E Chavez Ave. Boyle Heights; 323-264-1451.
